Some info about me, Bas
When I'm surfing the web I always have a look at the
"personal" pages of the person that made the page i'm
visiting. Why? Good question, maybe to see if the the person
is a bit like what you would expect from the page :-)
So, on this page you will find some info on me, what I like to
do, how I spend my holidays, what music I like. All sorts of
completely useles info ;-) Have fun

My primary interest is in technology, in the broadest sense, ranging from SMTP configuration, cryptography,
webdesign to Windows 2000 Active Directories.
By spending a large part of my freetime building my own servers, connecting them to the internet and other machines. I gained a lot
of practical knowledge and a good general overview on how to combine technologies.
In Februari 2003 I got the OK to start with an MCSE
certification. Target is to finish by the end of the year
(12-2003).
Hobbies
Most of my live I have been active with one or more sports. It started with athletics (at 8 years old I was
a lot longer then the average 8-year old. So I won some prices, mostly at medium distances :)
After moving from Lelystad to Montfoort I played hockey for a while. Far more fun to do than it is to watch..
After moving from Montfoort to Ermelo I took up Scuba Diving. A lot of fun! Diving is very good for your
physical condition. A lot of the training we did was pure conditional. Did this for several years.
But after I started my study at the University of Utrecht my interrests changed and I had a lot less free time.
Climbing
After a climbing holiday in Austria we wend to a indoor climbing hall to exchange foto's. Before then,
I didn't think indoor climbing would be much fun... but I was hooked after that first visit :-).
Around the same I started with fitness (some extra power is useful in climbing :) at the excellent
sports-facility at the UU. I'm not a good climber (far to stiff, my balance sucks)... but it's a lot of fun.
It doesn't help much that climbing is the first to go when I have less time :-)
As a result, my last visit to a climbing hall was more then a
year ago :( Telemarking
In march 2000 some friends suggested that I should go to "La Skieda", a very large telemark festival in
Livigno/Italy. Normal alpine skiing didn't impress me much, but telemarking (free-heeling) is fun.
In 2001 I went three times to the snow, bought my own telemark skies and boots the second time and learned
to telemark quite nicely with a few days of private lessons (teachers took us off-piste etc :-)
Went a few times to the snow in 2002, bought new skies in 2003. Have
a look at the photo album to see us skiing
(Ge-an (she) also got hooked ;-). Make sure to have a look at the movie my father made of some off-piste telemarking.
Travel
In my current job (DVB Bank) I am in the lucky position that I
get to travel quite a bit. Singapore, Hong-Kong, Greece and
Norway are the locations I have travelled to.
On private trips we have Canada, Australie, Nepal and Peru on
the wishlist :-)
